3D Puzzle Methodology applied to well-being

Rosto Solidário is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the D3PO project, which was completed at the end of January 2024, producing numerous results.

Launched in February 2022, the project began with comprehensive training for partner professionals in 3D modeling techniques and aspects related to the design of a 3D puzzle.

In a collaborative effort, the partners developed 10 concepts of therapeutic puzzles, each accompanied by a unique narrative.

Throughout the puzzle development process, it was always a priority to ensure that all puzzles were as inclusive as possible, allowing them to be used by individuals with different levels of mental or motor functionality. In fact, each puzzle has the potential to help promote motor, cognitive, and intra- and interpersonal skills.

The overall goal of the project was to create an inclusive learning environment based on game mechanics through 3D puzzles. Two manuals were created: a professional manual to guide professionals in assembling and disassembling the puzzles, with all puzzle components printable on any 3D printer and available for use on the project’s website; and a methodological manual with information on the potential of the puzzles to promote various skills, as well as a description of the main results obtained during the testing phase.

The exhaustive testing of the 3D puzzles involved more than 230 people, including the elderly, individuals with motor and/or mental difficulties, cancer patients, and people with specific learning disabilities.

Rosto Solidário conducted these tests with several Senior Clubs and Day Centers in the northern region. The feedback from participants was outstanding, with all expressing enthusiasm and interest in the dynamics these games allow. Relive some of those moments here!

Rosto Solidário created two puzzles based on narratives that convey the history and traditions of Santa Maria da Feira. In addition to the well-known Fogaça—a sweet bread and emblem of Feira’s gastronomic heritage—another puzzle was designed called the “Castle of Europe” (a symbol of security, community, and cohesion in the European territory), inspired by the particular characteristics of the Feira Castle, especially its four towers.

Therefore, on the eve of the Festa das Fogaceiras, to mark the occasion and the project’s conclusion, the organization presented Gil Ferreira, Councillor for Culture, Education, Youth, and Tourism of the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, with the two puzzles produced in the context of this European project.

Now that the project is complete, the team is excited about the accessibility and potential impact of the materials produced, aiming to positively influence many people in this innovative way.
