On July 14 and 17, the training course “Conflict Management and Intercultural Intervention in School Contexts” took place in Vila Nova de Gaia, targeting non-teaching staff from local school clusters.
With a total duration of 14 hours, the training aimed to equip participants with practical tools to manage conflicts in school settings, with a special focus on situations involving cultural diversity.
The methodology used was participatory and active, involving group dynamics, case studies, and role-play exercises, encouraging the sharing of experiences and the application of knowledge to real-life scenarios.
“The goal is to develop intercultural competences that help create a more inclusive, safe, and welcoming school environment for all children, regardless of their cultural backgrounds.”
The training, which included 20 participants, was held as part of the “Parcerias Locais para a EDCG” project, promoted in partnership with FEC – Fundação Fé e Cooperação and funded by Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P.
Key topics addressed included:
- Identifying cultural and social factors that influence behavior;
- Recognizing and intervening in intercultural conflicts;
- Practical techniques for empathetic communication and conflict mediation;
- Strategies to foster positive coexistence and respect for diversity in schools.
This initiative reflects the project’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the role of local authorities and school communities in promoting transformative, equitable, and culturally sensitive education.
