The Old Rabka’s Charm Festival took place in the town of Rabka-Zdrój, in the Polish mountains, recreating the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s through a live-action role-playing game organised by the Europe4Youth Association, with the support of 25 international volunteers.

Rosto Solidário supported the preparation and participation of Portuguese volunteer Beatriz Sousa, who took part in this unique experience, contributing to cultural activities and promoting active citizenship across borders.

During the volunteering project, participants received training and developed and took part in the live-action role-playing game, creating engaging characters and storylines. The training covered topics such as body and voice empowerment, personal development, cultural work with young people, and costume design. It also included an ethnographic trip through southern Poland, providing an opportunity to learn more about the history of the Rabka region during the 20th century.

The project promoted the appreciation of cultural heritage, strengthened the sense of community, and highlighted Rabka-Zdrój as a cultural and leisure destination.

“I look back at the photos on my phone with a big smile on my face. Old Rabka’s Charm was my first European Solidarity Corps volunteering project and, while still in Portugal, I was a little anxious about what the experience would be like, surrounded by people I had never met before. The truth is, that concern was completely unnecessary, because I could not have asked for a better experience. Within a few days, strangers became friends, and friends became family. The whole programme was exciting and fun, from the lessons about the history of Rabka and Poland, through the live-action role-playing games, to the two main days of the festival. It was a pleasure to discover Poland, meet the volunteers and experience the festival. I hope that one day I can come back and relive it all again!”
