The Re-Crafts international training, held at FEDESPAB in Paços de Brandão from 13 to 17 April, brought together participants from several countries for an initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable craftsmanship, creativity and international cooperation.

The Re-Crafts project, promoted by Rosto Solidário, aims to strengthen vocational education and support entrepreneurs in the fields of craftsmanship and upcycling, with a particular focus on their integration into the cultural and sustainable tourism value chain.

Over five intensive days, artisans and participants exchanged knowledge and developed practical skills by exploring a variety of upcycling craft techniques, including basketry, eco-crochet, working with fabric, paper and leather scraps, as well as beads and decorative glass.

These practices reinforce the project’s contribution to promoting more sustainable models and valuing traditional craftsmanship and know-how.

There was also time for social activities and visits, including a demonstration of the production process and tasting of the traditional Fogaça, providing an opportunity to discover more about the gastronomic and cultural heritage of Santa Maria da Feira and strengthen the project’s links with tourism establishments in the region, thereby achieving one of its key objectives.

The training stood out for its collaborative approach, promoting hands-on learning and knowledge sharing across different cultures.

As part of the European Erasmus+ programme, Re-Crafts brought together several international partners, including Rosto Solidário and FEDESPAB (Portugal), Cáritas de Angola (Angola), Cáritas Moçambicana (Mozambique), Espaço Jovem (Cape Verde) and ASPAYM (Spain).

The final day of the training was attended by Avelino Carvalho Costa, President of the Parish Council of Paços de Brandão, who highlighted the relevance of Re-Crafts for community development, emphasising its contribution to professional training, entrepreneurship and the development of the craft sector.

More than a training activity, Re-Crafts established itself as a space for encounters between cultures, ideas and traditions, leaving a significant impact on participants and reinforcing the role of craftsmanship as a driver of innovation and sustainability.
